Tour de Nord - Teil 6

Teil 6: Ausflug zum Trollfjord
Part 6: Trollfjord Cruise

After the unfamiliar hiking endeavour the day before, and also to protect the boys a bit from the burning sun, I decided to do something very touristy: a cruise to the Trollfjord! I am not getting any younger either... ;-)
So the boys stayed in the apartment, and I drove to Svolvaer, from where cruises to the fjord are offered. There are basically 2 possibilities: You can either take a super-high-speed boat, or you can cruise for hours on an old boat, while being served coffee and cookies. Obviously, I chose the latter option. How am I supposed to take pictures on a speedboat? ;-)

So there I was, cruisin' on M/S Trollfjord, sippin' my coffee, enjoying the awesome weather (almost no wind) and admiring the surrounding - which once again was super beautiful. Not bad at all! :-) There were many other tourists with me on the boat, but the atmosphere was still nice.

But my actual highlight started only on our way back. The captain stopped the boat and announced that he would do some fishing. I feared this would take a loooong time (and my boys were waiting...), but what do I know about fishing, particularly about fishing in Norway? Nothing! :-D Thanks to a fancy fish radar, the boat had actually stopped right on top of a big swarm of fishes. The captain cast his fishing rod - which wasn't equipped with any bait, but only a couple of hooks - moved it up and down a little, and voila: a fish or even a few were caught. Within minutes, fishing business was done! :-D
Then, the captain threw bread crumbs into the water. Within milliseconds, we found ourselves in the middle of a swarm of seagulls, who were following the boat. That was so awesome! They are incredibly funny birds, know no fear, and are rather attractive photo models, too! I took many, many, many seagull pictures... :-D

And in case you are wondering what's the meaning behind the fishing and the luring of the seagulls (other than making tourists happy): the actual goal was to attract white-tailed eagles! Because they know, where there are seagulls, there's something going on... and so they come (if you are lucky)! :-D In order to get them real close to our boat, the captain threw the fishes in the water - and they were collected by the eagles. That was so impressive! Very beautiful and imposing animals!

On that day, I couldn't stop smiling. :-)

And because I am utterly in love with my bird pictures, I show you many of them - I don't care that it's basically the same motif all over again... :) I call it art! :-P
